As storytellers and filmmakers we love all things creative, story based and truly appreciate the childhood wonder found in some of our favorite films from our upbringing. The Conductor’s Spellbook gives us all those things, sending us on a musical adventure filled with whimsy and presented in an elegant, educational and entertaining classical concert performed wonderfully by the Naples Philharmonic.
“The Conductor’s Spellbook gives us all those things, sending us on a musical adventure filled with whimsy and presented in an elegant, educational and entertaining classical concert…”
Paul Dooley, is the author, creator and composer of The Conductor’s Spellbook. An interactive concert running at an estimated 45 minutes in length, conveying the epic adventure of a sorcerer’s apprentice type main character Tony Stradivarius. Tony, after a concert discovers The Conductor’s Spellbook and is whisked into a world of musical learning, exploration, magic and eventually the harnessing of the powers held within the spellbook and proper use of the conductor’s baton.
The story is narrated by Gerrit VanderMeer who reads and interacts with a youth audience, usually elementary and middle school children, walking them through Tony’s adventure while describing the intricacies of the various instruments, their characteristics, the nature of their dynamics within the orchestra and casting magical spells to bring these instruments to life.
“Presto Clarineto!”, “Rococo Oboe Go!” “Prestisimo Violanisimo!”
The character Tony Stradivarius struggles through the discovery of knowledge that unlocks the powers of each instrument in the orchestra, until he begins to gain confidence in his magical abilities, eventually creating his own spells and unifying all the powers of the orchestral instruments; creating his grand finale!
The performance is followed by a Q&A session with the audience lead by the conductor. Throughout which the kids get to answer questions and review everything they learned from the narrator and the orchestra about the instruments and their characteristics. A truly remarkable and enjoyable exploration of contemporary American classical music and one that impacts and brings forward music education for youth.
Check out the teaser for this fantastic orchestration and if you have any other questions about the Conductor’s Spellbook please don’t hesitate to let us know! As always follow us on Facebook and instagram for more information and stay tuned for new projects and information right here on BES Films.
